Waiting...

EDIT: Lawrence Earnest Perry (Grumpsy) passed away at 3.15pm 16.11.09. May he rest in peace.

Got a call yesterday that my 92 year old great grandfather (Grumpsy) had taken a turn for the worse. I wasn't even aware that he was sick. Mum rang me and said she was going to visit him - he's wasn't expected to make it through to today, but I haven't heard anything yet - so me, mum, my sis and bro took the 1.5 hr drive to Wonthaggi to see him off.

I nearly cried when I first saw him because he was so frail. I haven't seen him since last Dec, and the poor old duffa was asleep with he mouth open and his false teeth out. He didn't wake up while we were there, but he'd had some morphine so he was comfortable.

Grumps used to drive ambulances in WWII and he was deafened by a bomb blast. My whole life it was hard to understand what he was saying to me, so I used to nod and smile and pretend I knew what was going on. LOL! He used to try and cheat at pool when we played and I remember Mum saying that when she fell pregnant with me at 18 he just had the biggest grin on his face (unlike the other unimpressed family members)

I am his eldest great grand child and I will always remember him as the most kind, fuddy duddy old man I've known. I hope he goes peacefully in his sleep today and I hope he knew we were there yesterday to say farewell.

Love ya Grumpsy. Nanna's waiting...

Out of touch

I'm leaving for Ballarat tomorrow arvo for the weekend and may or may not have internet access (I'll be taking the laptop, but not sure of the hotel facilities. If you need to contact me I can check my email on my phone, but I'll be playing pool most of the time. :)

Hopefully the Rare Calendars will be shipping out today to Balaa. As soon as she gets them she will be able to work out weight/dimensions and let everyone on the project know how much shipping costs are. I'm really excited!

My website seems to be playing funny buggers on me. I swear I have uploaded a new merchandise.html page 3 times and it's still showing the old page. It doesn't seem to be overwriting files anymore on my FTP unless I delete the file first and upload. But I was sure I did that anyway...

Grrr!

New website...and sketch.

I've decided to make myself a new website design. I felt the old one was a bit blegh and it was hard to update. I'm keeping the colour scheme though- PINK of course! :)
I don't know much HTML to begin with, but I've been wanting to teach myself CSS for a while. I'm basically learning by doing and the firebug add-on for firefox really helps dissect other sites that have features I want.
I've been listening to the best music lately too - Buddha Bar. I've had vol 8 and 9 for a while now, and I just decided to get 10 and 11.

Here is a doodle I plan on making a into a finished piece. Enjoy! )

Stupid Email Inbox!

My mother keeps sending me these massive attachments that take up all my inbox storage so I haven't been getting all my emails lately. I'm really pissed off that I may have missed something important.

8 things meme :B

1)these are the rules
2)post 8 true things about yourself
3)at the end you must tag 8 people and post their icon
4)then you must go to their page & tell them you got tagged
5)NO tag backs!

1. I have the biggest boobs out of all my friends!

2. My favourite colour is pink, but red looks best on me. The other day I even treated myself to a cute headband with a bow and a flower necklace so I could have a whole red outfit.

3. I still sleep with my toy bunny rabbit I've had since I was 2. His name is Peter and I wedge him into my neck nook like a pillow.

4. I really want to represent my state and my country in 8-ball one day. Hopefully I will make the state team this weekend coming. We are down to the last 16 women. Last year I was first emergency by one frame... :(

5. I do not want my 44 year old mother to have a child with her latest husband. For god's sake - enough is enough. I am adverse to the idea of being 26 years older than a sibling.

6. Foul language warning! )

7. I only accept friend requests on Facebook from people I am friends with IRL and I laugh when people add me who I don't care for or vice versa in the pool scene. :)

8. I have never met my real father, and I'm happy with the one I have now. :p

Hmmm...do I even have enough friends to tag? If you happen to see that I tagged you, go for it, otherwise I'm not going to bug you. :)

Going away...

Oh yeah! Finally having a much needed short break from work. I'm taking a 6-day weekend and going to Berri, SA for only the best 8-ball tournament in the land of Oz!
Dale, our friend Sam and I will be leaving early Friday morning (5am) and should reach our destination in the afternoon. We are staying at a different motel this year (BUMMER) and it's not within walking distance of the pool venue which sucks. But at least it has a spa...not that I can fit into my togs any more - damn chocolate addiction!
So anyway, I'll be gone until maybe Tues. I'll catch up on everything then.

Cya lata! :)

Rant about criticism

OMG, I just have to put this in writing.
I can't stand it when I see an artist who has posted some art and then says "No crit please." (And yes, some of my artist friends do it, grrrr). Yeah, they may already be aware of some flaws in their own work, but someone might point out something they didn't notice, or even better, tell them how to fix it! It is my opinion that if you cannot always be open to criticism then you are never going to improve as much as you could.
I have recently been working under an artist by the name of Al Lockhart and he rides me like you wouldn't believe. I can show him a piece when I think it looks brilliant and he will say - "It needs more work." Now, while I find this frustrating and sometimes upsetting, he is so fucking right because when I do that extra bit of work my stuff ends up looking better than his! LOL.
My art has improved 1 million % since working with Al. It's just a shame I can post any of it yet, because the games haven't even been announced. And the stuff I did for Puzzle Kingdoms is pretty crap compared to now, so I don't really want to show it. Maybe I'll post it here, but not on DA.

Anyway, that's my rant. So for anyone who's listening, if you want to get better, then fucking open yourself up and prepare to be gutted. It's the fastest way! :)

What's New...?

Haven't updated in a while. I've been so obsessed with playing DOFUS lately that it's impacting on my drive to make art. XD
I've got a couple of projects on the go - I'm co-moderating the Unusual Anthro Calendar 2010 and I've decided to finally join the ACEOFursExchange after being invited about 2 years ago. I'm also hoping to make a new set of bookmarks for MidFur 11. You can find out more about them here: http://ashalinds-ashes.livejournal.com/2193.html
It's also the time of year when I have a lot going on with pool. The state team selection is currently underway and I have made it through the first round. Last year I missed out by ONE frame, and was only an emergency, so I really want to make it this year.
So, short story is I need to stop gaming and practice art and pool more! LOL.

New Mood Icons

Yay! I did some art for me.
These are so fun and I would love to do more, so commission me! :)

Sheesh...

Stress

I really need to draw something for myself tonight. I'm kinda stressed about the stupidest, most mundane things. And DOFUS is annoying me because I can't find a Shield Smith Hammer because I don't have any bamboo wood because I don't have any Kamas because I don't have an income because I'm stuck in the stupid shield smith profession without a HAMMER!!! AAAAGGHH!

I really want to make my own emoticons too...

Hades

Hades - 2/13

Technically he's not one of the 12 Olympians, but he's one of the major gods, so I can't leave him out. I probably haven't conveyed it enough with my linework, but he's a striped hyena, not any other canine.

Anthrolympians!

I've decided to start a new personal project - anthro renditions of the 12 Olympian Gods of Greek Mythology plus Hades...we can't leave out the lord of the Underworld just because he doesn't have fluffy cloud pillows and rainbow bubblegum, lol.

At first I wanted to make a 12-month calendar with a Hades centrefold, but I've change my mind and I'm now going for a bookmark series. I love the format of these particular pieces - they are quick and allow me to focus on the important parts of the subject. I hope to have these completed and available for sale as a set at MiDFur11.

The Gods

Aphrodite - Vixen
Apollo - Stag
Ares - Lion
Artemis - Doe
Athena - Owl
Demeter - Hare
Dionysus - Ape
Hades - Hyena
Hephaestus - Hedgehog
Hera - Snake
Hermes - Horse
Poseidon - Tortoise
Zeus - Bull

The first sketch I have completed is Athena:

She is a snowy owl, representing wisdom.
I have yet to decide on medium for this project, but am currently leaning towards digital (Painter X).

Netball and Birthdays

Netball and Birthdays

I haven't made a post in a while, so here's something...

Tonight the new season of netball starts! I can't wait. I freaking love playing and it's been about 3 weeks since we lost the Grand Final by 1 goal. I'm ready for revenge on an unsuspecting team. LOL.
I'm normally a defender, but one of our shooters is pregnant with her 3rd so I'm moving back to goals. I have fun shooting and I find my heels don't ache after the game when I play there.

It's also Dale's Birthday today. He's 32 and I have to make a cake before the game tonight. It's gonna be a tight squeeze.

Anyway, the next couple of months is going to be really busy and I have so many art projects I want to do. Ahhh!

Fires in Victoria

Fires Ravaging Australia

If you've been following the news, things aren't great down under in Victoria, Aus. Massive bushfires are raging across the state forests and destroying many homes. 173 deaths have been confirmed and that number is set to increase.

I am in a relatively safe area, away from the fires, but my brother-in-law had a close call yesterday. Flames were almost licking at his back fence which he was hosing down. I thought their house was a goner, but luckily they escaped any damage. They have an old 66 chevy in their garage which use to belong to my family and I almost hyperventilated when I thought about that on fire.

One of my friends has a family farm in Eildon and her parents are trapped up there due to road blocks. They may have to set her horse loose soon because it's raining embers. Snowball is a bit old, so I hope he makes it.

The thing that makes me sick the most is that these fires are deliberately lit. There are some sick fucks out there who just want to get their jollies off watching fires, and they have to pick 46 degrees Celsius days to do it. I hope THEY burn in hell!!

If my house was on fire I would have to grab the following possessions:

My cherished toy rabbit, Peter (23 yrs old)
My pool cue
My portable hard drive with my art scans
My photos

Apparently your mind doesn't function right when there's a raging inferno and you become scatterbrained. If you had a clear head what would you grab?

Heat and Art

Heat and Art

Ugh! Yesterday the air con stopped working, but after about 3 hours of 36 degrees Celsius INSIDE, Dale got up on the roof and fixed it. It's nice and cool now and I decided to start painting Rogue. Just basic colouring for now.

I'm really nervous about tomorrow's first match day. Our team has new shirts and we didn't tell the other Potters team we were getting them. They are going to crack it! I don't know what I will say to them, but basically we want to be different from them and it's not like we have to run every decision by them. If they organised new shirts for themselves I wouldn't care. Anyway...DREAD!

Time out for a Journal

Time out for a Journal

Last night I had some of my team mates come over for a hit of pool. Our first match day is on Sunday and I am pumped for a rockin' season. Once again I'm captain, and we now have new polo shirts. I am expecting the other Potters team to have a go at us for not getting them new shirts, but...BRING IT ON! Bad news, however, my Vice Captain and doubles partner Wanee might be moving to WA. I really don't want her to go (which is selfish) but she wants to make a future over there. I don't see why she can't do it in Melbourne...Anyway, I'm bummed. :(

I'm currently working on two titles at Infinite Interactive right now. I think I've been dubbed the "Icon Bitch"...I guess it's because I'm good at them, but a change now and then is good. At least I don't have to do environment concepts cos I suck at them. It's just a shame I can't showcase any of the art I've done until the games are released.

I think I'm babysitting tonight, but I'm going to try and make time for some art. I'm going to start on the Rogue piece I sketched.
